Well its that SPOOKTACULAR time of year again and just the other day I was reminiscing about my Halloween shenanigans. I remember my friends and I “Names withheld to protect the guilty” walking or riding our bikes to the local Ben Franklin’s in town to stock up on Barbasol shaving cream, and I mean stock up. It was going to be WAR! We would then race back to my house in order to raid my mothers sewing kit for some pins. The pins were set into the opening of the shaving cream cap, then with a match we would burn the caps around the pins. Once the plastic was hardened again and pins removed we had a shaving cream cannon at our beckon call. Oh the mischief! Another weapon of choice was the floured sock, it would be stuffed in or under our costumes like a concealed weapon ready to strike our opponents in hand to hand combat. Now if the situation really deteriorated to the point of no return each of us were packing a dozen extra large eggs which we had stuffed into our pillowcase trick or treat bags. I think it is safe to say I’ve had egg on my face once or twice in my day.
In today’s society I couldn’t imagine running around the neighborhood shooting shaving cream and throwing eggs at one another without the Police showing up. It was harmless fun and it was something we looked forward to all year. Hmm I’m wondering if this led to our firework war obsession? Well thats for another time!
