The color run has finally made it to our slice of the world and as it grows in popularity around America it only seemed logical to have one right here in Broome County. This event sold out quickly with 5, 000 participants. Usually on Sunday’s I do my long run/group run which I absolutely love. Intrigued by the color run I decided to go and see what all the hype was about. In spirit of the day I ran the 9 miles from my home to the campus of Broome Community College where this event was wing held.
Sun was shinning and the wind blowing, did I mention the sun was shinning? Temps were little chilly but tolerable. For those of you not familiar with the color run 5K.
Less about your 10-minute-mile and more about having the time of your life, The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which thousands of participants, or “Color Runners”, are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:
- Wear white at the starting line
- Finish plastered in color!
The fun continues after Color Runners complete the race with an unforgettable Finish Festival. This larger than life party is equipped with music, dancing and massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations. Trust us, this is the best post-5k party on the planet!
You can either run or walk and it is billed as the “Happiest 5K” on the planet, and that it was. I enjoyed spectating and even capturing a few iPhone photos.
