Two Hundred and Ten teams competed in the Seneca 7 Sunday April 21st 2013 in Geneva, New York. A grueling 77.77 mile relay race skirting (Literally as team Cayuga 7 , out of Ithaca, NY an all male team wearing skirts, won the event for the third year in a row) Seneca Lake in New York’s Finger Lakes Region. Some of the elevation gains were enormous. For example (Leg 7) had a gain of 215.3 feet in 3.9 miles. Coming out of Watkins Glen, New York (Leg 11 one of mine) had a gain of 318.3 feet in 4.1 miles. BCTC Warriors finished strong, 29th overall with a course time of 9:59:38 sporting a 7.7 minute mile average. Oh Yeah boys!
The days weather was a mix of sun, clouds and wind with temps hovering around 45 degrees. Perfect day to race but could have done without the wind. My conclusion is this. If you have the opportunity to run this race do so! It is a beautiful course, add some of the whacky outfits along with team names and you’ll have a riot. Throw in countless vineyards which dot both sides of the lake and it will be an experience you will remember for a lifetime.
